I have written before. Remember me?

I am amazed with the questions...but more amazed with the answers you are able to provide.

How do you and your team know so much about the things being asked? Were you all expected to know these things before youir trip? Are you all experts on the area and history and that is why you were chosen for this research?

Hello Hector,

Part of the reason we are here is to study the environment as a system. All parts of the system have an impact on the system as a whole. It is important to learn as much as we can about all parts of this amazing system if we are to understand the system and how it fits as part of a larger system!

Are we experts? Not hardly, although we are learning fast! The principle investigators for this project and one of the students have past experience in the area. Also, we have a connection with UNIS, providing university courses on Svalbard and the instructors like Hanne Christiansen and Ole Humlum have provided a wealth of information. Mostly, when we have a question similar to the ones being posted, we research it and then try to further that research in some way by our current experiences. There is so much to learn and we are only here for a brief time!

Sometimes I answer a posted question only to learn more about it within the next few days. Then I go back and edit my answer, trying to provide the best information I can. I hope that when I have more time upon my return I can go back and double check a few things to provide better information. In the meantime, I will continue to provide the best answers I can relying upon input from the others who are here with me and the resources we brought.

Thanks for your question!
