Sandra Geisbush Studies Holocene Climate Change in Norway
12 July - 20 August
Join TREC teacher Sandra Geisbush in Svalbard, Norway as she studies how high latitude glaciers, melt-water streams, and
sedimentation in lakes and fjords respond to changing climate. Sandra will work with Steve Roof from Hampshire College, Al Werner
from Holyoke College and other team members to understand climate change during the Holocene (the last 11,000 years), as part of a
National Science Foundation's
Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) project.
Sandra is currently in Virginia serving as an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator with the Triangle Coalition for Science and
Technology Education, and will be returning to Texas this fall to teach in the North East Independent School district in San Antonio.
Sandra hopes that the opportunities as a team member in this project will extend far beyond the actual research
experience through future curriculum development that will encourage and develop students as researchers.
