Have you actually seen a polar bear yet? do you expect to?

I have NOT seen any polar bears, yet, nor (unfortunately?) do I expect to se any. The polar bears live on the ice pack and this time of year, the ice is about 50 miles or so out to sea. That is pretty far for the bears to come in and there isn't much reason for them to come to shore, since their main food source, seal meat, is also on the ice. If a bear were stranded on the land right now, they would be in danger of overheating and they would also very dangerous, because they would probably be hungry. While I was in Atqasuk, there were some reports of polar bears here in Barrow, far north of town on the point, but that has been it.
