I noticed mountains in some of your pictures. I thought the circle was a barren, flat glacier.
Are those mountains or distortions...actually hills?

This is an archipelago and rises from the floor of the Barents Sea as part of a vast continental shelf that forms the Svalbard Archipelago. It is mountainous, with the highes peak in Svalbard being Newtontoppen which rises 1713 meters, and is capped with several meters of snow and ice on top of that! The mountains are steep and jagged and have very sharp points. The various rock layers stand out very clearly and have different colors, as you might have noticed in the pictures. In addition to the mountains are the large branching fjords which cut deep into the landscape. The whole area has been carved out by glaciers over the past millions of years! Yep! These are the real deal!
