Well, this journal post has two purposes:
1 - to test my ability to upload with my new ARCUS laptop and
2 - to say a Happy Father's Day to my dad.
My trip later this week (is it that soon already!?) has a lot to do with my father. So if you will excuse me for "getting personal" I would like to elaborate.
When I was young, my father was in the Marine Corps and military life was central to my upbringing. And though he has been out of the Corps for 24 years now and is beginning to mellow a bit, my father is always a Marine to me.
I have so many fond memories of my father: playful wrestling with him and my brother, him showing me how to gut the fish that I had caught (because if you caught them, you cleaned them), him messing up his one "line" at my wedding and him teaching me how to flip an egg so the yolk won't break just to name a few.
But more than anything, my father always believed in me and my ability to do whatever I set me mind to accomplish. His never-wavering support has been there throughout my entire life and I am certain has given me the confidence to take on the Arctic.
Thanks, Dad. I love you.
