In several of your pictures it appears that the reseachers are working from an aluminum ladder that is held off the ground by material that might be plot dividers. Is that what's happening? Are you working to the ladders so that you don't step/stand on points that are being studied/evaluated?

Correct, the ladders are covered with plywood. They span the 2x3m plots and rest on plank dividers. In all there are 102 of these plots at this site. This is a long term study, looking at what happens during certain conditions such as the removal of moss. Moss is a species particularly vulnerable to climate change, but is also known to hold a lot of moisture. So the idea is to remove the moss from some plots and see what happens to the other species over time.
At no time do we step in the plots. There are lots of other manipulations to the test plots, but trampling on them is not one:)
