Today was kind of a mellow day. I have to take it easy, so that I can prepare for the altitude change. I have been drinking lots of water and resting.

I started out the day early with a breakfast at the dining hall. It was a fairly normal breakfast...but wait until you hear about lunch!!!!!

I did go to the warehouse to get all of my cold weather gear and my sleep kit. The warehouse is a place where they store the gear, as well as some food and equipment.

These photos will give you a sense of what the warehouse looks like:

I spent a good chunk of the morning downloading pictures and finishing yesterday's journal entry. Then came lunch. I have been warned that the food is regional cuisine, and I may be surprised at what I see. Boy, was I ever. MUSK OX PIZZA!!!!!!!

Doesn't it look delish? I didn't think so either. But, I promised I was going to try to be adventurous with food. Unfortunately, by the time I worked up the nerve to try it, it was gone, and replaced with something that looked straight out of fear factor. I was dissapointed, but not enough to try the other stuff!!!

I took a long walk along the edge of the fjord this afternoon, and just took in the beautiful surroundings. Didn't see any musk ox, they say that when I get back to Kanger in two weeks it is likely they'll be around.

This is the Sondrestrom fjiord. I learned today that it is one of the largest fjiords in the world!!!

These mountains surround the entire fjiord.

These are two shots of town from across the fjiord. Thats it- thats the WHOLE town (its even smaller than Kewaskum!!!!)!!!

This is a radar station left over from the military base that used to operate here.

Tomorrow is another busy day. Our flight for Summit leaves at 9:00 a.m. It takes about two hours to get there. Hope I don't get sick!!!

Bye

Nikki
