Luckily, I haven't had to use any of the Arctic Survival Skills training that I received, but part of the training included how to avoid getting yourself in those types of situations anyway. Call me crazy, but I did put myself in the "crash" position during take off and landing on the plane we took to Zhigansk, but that is mostly because I am crazy. Anyway, we are all being extra careful about things to avoid any injuries. For example, when we are walking around we are careful about rusty nails and stuff like that. Zhigansk has a lot of logs and metal just sort of lying around, so it is good to be mindful of little things like that. Marine Biological Lab (where Max works) also bought a bunch of life jackets for the boat we will be testing on, since they don't have any. So, I have every reason to believe I won't have to learn any of the skills I learned--and that would be a good thing!!
