Hi, I am a second grader at Farmington Elementary. Why are those people in the photo dropping the net into the water? Please write back. Thank you, Kurtis

Hello Kurtis,
Where is Farmington Elementary? I am in Yelm, Washington right now. Yelm is a small city close to the state capital, Olympia. I will leave for Alaska on May 12th and join the ship, USCGC HEALY, on May 15th.

I was not there when the picture was taken, however, scientist usually put nets into the ocean to collect plankton or nekton to study. Plankton is a plant or animal that cannot swim against a current and nekton is an animal that is able to swim against a current. Can you name a type of nekton?

Thank you for your question.

Ms Cie
