Exploring the Arctic

Early in June I will join the Toolik Lake Models for the Arctic Tundra research project. To prepare for that I will travel first to the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Michigan, to meet Dr. Tony England and the rest of the Models for the Arctic Tundra team. I will get to spend a day in the Space Physics Research Lab to learn more about the project. I hope to get a look at the research truck carrying the tools and equipment for the expedition before it starts its long journey traveling across the U.S., Canada, back again into the U.S. in Alaska, and on up across the Arctic Circle to the Toolik Lake Field Station. I can't wait to learn more about this research that studies the importance of the fragile tundra environment.
Later in April I will travel to Denver, CO, to learn more about Toolik Lake, and how to live and work in Arctic conditions. One question I have is what kinds of bears are there, and do they like to visit the field station? Maybe you can do a little research and email me your information. I'm not as worried about the temperature; can June in the Arctic be worse than January in northern Wisconsin? I'll find out. I'll keep you updated with what I learn in Michigan and Colorado. Maybe I can include a few pictures of the Tundra Truck and the Space Physics Research Lab.
