Hi Arlon and Willis,

Yes, it is a really big boat that we will be on. I don't know exactly how much weight it could carry, but I'd guess even more that 20 tons would be possible. One interesting thing about this boat is that although it is 30 meters long, it only "draws" about 1.5 meters. (Do you know what "draws" means?) It is made especially for working on the huge Russian rivers.

Hi Arlon-
We just arrived in the capital of Siberia this morning and will not get
to the village where we will be testing the water until Wednesday.
However, when we flew in today we could see the Lena River and the ice
had just started to break up and you could still see lots of ice on the
river which should be able to give you a pretty good clue about the
approximate temperature of the river. What do you think it may be?
I'll look forward to hearing what you think the temperature is and then
as soon as we get there and are able to take the temperature, I'll let
you know what it is.

Since it is still so cold here, I don't know if we will be able to fish
on the Lena River, so I too am curious about what kinds of fish live
here. I will ask around to some people who may know and get back to
you, but maybe you could do me a favor too--since there are no English
encyclopedias available to me right now and it is hard for me to get on
the Internet, maybe you could do a little research for me and see if you
can find out type of fishes might be found in the rivers of Siberia.
I'll look forward to hearing your answer!!

Amy
