Ms. Clapp
I don't know how clouds form but there sure are plenty of them around here. You cant see the moon at all. Are you having any problems with the time change? Can you speak any Russian? Is Moscow an exciting city? I think your trip is so cool- I wish I could be on one.

Dear Mike,
I'm sorry to hear that it is cloudy where you are. The moon was out here again tonight. I didn't speak any Russian, but now I know how to say hello, good morning, good afternoon, thank you and good bye. These are my phonetic ways of saying them.

Hello-stratzveetzy
Good Morning=dobray ootray
Good Afternoon=dobray den
Thank you=Spaciba
Good bye=Dosveedonya

I'm trying to learn one new Russian word each day. Moscow is a very exciting city. It has an international feel which I guess means to me that it has a lot of the same advertisements that I find in any of the cities that I go to--of course they are in Russian though. We actually didn't spend that much time in Moscow, but on our way back I'll be there for two days, so I will be able to respond better to your questions then!

I don't know what has been more difficult, the time changes or the changes in light and seasons that I have gone through in the last 2 days. The trip to Moscow was easy and my body acclimated really quickly. However, the trip to Yakutsk has been another story. First of all, the sun didn't set at all while we were flying which was just plan wierd. When we arrived it was cold and I honestly had no idea if it was morning or evening. Today Max, the principal investigator, and I both got confused about time as we forgot that it was actually spring as it feels like winter again.

The other thing that I want to tell you about when we were flying were the trees! There were so many of them when we were flying into Yakutsk, but here in the city center there aren't very many of them. Do you know what kinds of trees grow in a place like this? If you do, please let me know.

I don't know what grade you are in Mike Buckle, but you too could do a trip like this. There is an American college student who is 18 years old with us and there are two 21 year old Russian students too! Science is a great field where you get to answer questions and go on great adventures too!
