Hi Amy,
I assume that you are traveling today and are on your way to Lena River. I read on the internet that you can draw potable water from the river! Is this true? I also read that there are beautiful sandstone formations that line the river. Will you have an opportunity to see them?
Since it is the 11th longest river in the world, I am wondering where you will be along the river. I would also like to know a bit about the flora and fauna.
Take care,
Patricia |

Hey Patricia,
Great to hear from you. Yes we are on our way. I left Burlington this morning, and will be boarding the flight to Moscow via Paris shortly. Luckily, the international terminal has a wireless system so I am up and running with this.
So...it may say that the water is potable on the Lena, but we aren't going to be drinking right out of the river! As far as we know right now the ice on the river hasn't broken yet--so maybe we can have Lena River ice cubes! However, to be on the safe side, we will be drinking bottled water!
You obviously did some research--there are beautiful sandstone formations on the river--but the most beautiful ones will be upriver from where we are. However, from what Max has told me, we will hopefully see some great sandstone cliffs. I'll be sure to snap a few photos!!
Reindeer will probably be some of the most exciting animals we see. There are also large boreal forests. I'll be able to fill you in more on that in a few days!
Hope all is going well in Middlebury!!!
