July is just around the corner and I am so excited to begin my adventure to Prince Patrick Island, Canada.
On April 24 and 25 the TREC teachers met with Kayt and Janet from ARCUS and Angela from VPR in Denver, CO for Field Safety Training. Safety training was lead by Brian Horner of Learn to Return in Anchorage, Alaska.
The weekend was a great experience. It was really nice to meet the other teachers and share our journey with each other. Over the course of the weekend we learned about a variety of things including hypothermia, frostbite, plane crash safey, fire starter, survival kits, water purification, rope making, knot tying, field first aid, and survival shelters. The weekend culminated with practice in the "field" (a nice grassy area near the hotel).
Below are two pictures I thought you might enjoy. The first is me making a boot for Janet from foam, trash bags, electrical tape and string.
This second picture shows Janet at the end of our session. She is modeling her bandaged hand and head, make shift mukluk boot, and designer trash bag rain coat that has a hood that converts to a backpack.
Although the weekend was a lot of fun the topics we learned about were truly safety oriented. Hopefully the knowledge will be just that and that we all return safe and sound. |
