Last weekend I attended Cold Weather Survival Training in Denver. It was an awesome and a little bit scary class that "exposed" all of the TREC teachers to what to expect and how to survive in the cold of the Arctic. It made me really realize that I am GOING! Now I need to really start getting ready.
It was great to meet all of the other teachers. I was a bit daunted by how much I realize that I need to learn about the arctic. I am currently looking for some books and articles about tundra, birds and wildlife, and the carbon cycle.
I want my class to be able to have a research question of their own that I will be working on while I am in Barrow, but need to be sure that they come up with something workable. Until I have the planning teleconferences, then I don't want to get them over invested in an idea. It will probably be something observational, however.
My students are just now starting to dig into the Virtual Base Camp (HELLO!).
Well, here's looking forward to getting more of the "details" in the next two weeks!
