Now that you've been away for a few weeks, have yall developed any special cravings?

Like, should I have them meet you at the plane when you return to the USA with anything special? Fish? Venison? Chocolate?

Hi,
Do not meet us at the airport with fish! Please! We are so addicted to chocolate now that it wouldn't surprise me if that made a nice welcome home treat for some, but not me! What do we miss? We miss trees and green fields. We miss radio and television. We REALLY miss the night and we all have figured exactly when we might next experience darkness again. We miss garden greens and tossed salad, all kinds of fresh fruit, and real milk. We miss all kinds of sodas and things like gum and candy other than chocolate. We miss friends and loved ones. We miss our cell phones, our cars, and our pets. We miss taking baths and unlimited hot water. We miss clean clothes! I think we will experience some culture shock upon our return and since we have been so busy chasing down data I believe that some of the experience-processing of our venture will occur once we are back. It is unbelievably quiet here, so it would not surprise me if we seek some solitude and shun the loud and obtrusive noises of culture until we readjust to our old lifestyles again. I think being bombarded by the news media, especially the election news, will be intrusive. Other than the occassional logging on to CNN we have been pretty much out of the loop. The Olympics will be fun to watch, for awhile, but I think we have adjusted quite well to a media-free environment.

Personally, I want to eat at Red Lobster and Outback, maybe even both in the same day! I want to have my hair done, since while I have been here I have seldom even combed it! Wearing make-up again? Who knows! I really do not miss that! I want to get back to Curves and keep this ultra-conditioning up by hiking, riding, and maybe even taking up something new. I want to wear shorts and my Tevos and go shopping for whatever I want whenever I want it 24-7, even if it is just to HEB or WalMart! I plan to throw all my Arctic underwear away and buy something frivolous to replace it. I want to play with my granddaughter and enjoy my family.

That all sounds good to us, too. It will be wonderful just having you home.

You might want to bring a box of Kleenex. We may have forgotten how to use them. In the cold, the wind, and the rain it seems that our noses are constantly running and our faces dripping wet. We have developed the habit of wiping our noses and faces with whatever is handy, usually our sleeves! I am sure this will be an interesting habit once the students and teachers all return to the classroom! Some have even perfected the "Farmers' Blow" and that might look a bit out of place at the airport. You might want to have tissues available to remind us we are back in civilization!
