One might expect to see this lovely flower on a tropical island. It is actually a flower blooming on the High Arctic Tundra.
 This pretty flower sits within a clump of sorrel.
 Tese yellow flowers are growing next to one of the huts. Their stems are a bit longer than we usually see because they have the structure for protection
 More pretty flowers.

These pretty pink flowers would add color to any garden. They are suited to the Arctic Tundra and grow in lovely clumbs for protection from the elements.
 These white puff balls were first mistaken by some of us from a distance as tufts of white reindeer fur. The reindeer is white during the winter and changes to brown during the summer. We see the shedded reindeer fur throughout the tundra. In this case, the puffs are actually plants.
 I don't know the name of this pretty little flower, but I will try to find out and edit this picture when I return to Longyearbyen later this week.
 These purple striped puffs are not all that common but we were pleased to find them in one particular area.

One might think that these flowers were cramped by the rocks. These rocks actually provide protection from the often fierce wind and reindeer hooves.
 These are actually trees, some of the smallest that grow. They are generally less than two inches tall.
 Sorrel is seen growing across the tundra this time of year in the Svalbard High Arctic. It is edible and rather refreshing with a tangy, almost citris flavor we have come to enjoy. It is supposedly a rich source of Vitamin C.
 The summer sun and warmer conditions are evident in the glacial melt seen in this picture. Soon it will snow and the cold weather will be back to refreeze the glacier.
