Good to hear from you. I hope that your summer is going well.
BASC - stands for Barrow Arctic Science Consortium and is basically a company that provides support for scientists working in and around Barrow. They provide housing, meals through the Ilisagvik College Cafeteria, equipment in the form of cell phones, radios, four-wheelers, trucks, boots, clothing for cold weather, lab space, etc. Scientists that work in Barrow pay BASC for the services and then it is cheaper than trying to maintain all of those items individually. BASC supports a house in Atqasuk for scientists to live in while they work here and also pays for us to eat at the Atqasuk Hotel (which is like the NARL Hotel in that it is work camp lodging, but with a small kitchen where we eat).
