What does the food there compare to the food here? Does it taste good?

It is good to hear from you (even though I am now back in the "lower 48")!
What was the food like? Well, it depends on which food you mean.
I had two kinds of food while in Barrow, regular food and native food. The regular food is what we usually ate. Nearly every day at the cafeteria we had regular cafeteria food. Eggs, sausage, pancakes for breakfast, sandwiches, burgers, french fries, etc for lunch, and typical dinners. Everything at the cafeteria was good, but greasy. We seemed to eat a LOT of food, too. Being out in the cold all day made us very hungry, that 's for sure! I generally avoided the cakes, cookies and pies, though. (I had a hard time avoiding brownies, they are my weakness!)
The native food that I had was just at the whaling festival, the Nalukataq. I had goose soup (which is very oily), caribou soup (which was delicious!), mikiaq (fermented whale meat and blubber, which was just fishy tasting) and eskimo ice cream (which was congealed caribou fat and berries and VERY NASTY! Like eating a soft candle). That was the only time that we had native food, though.
Hope I answered your question and you are having a nice summer holiday!
