Compare the Russian language version of Elena's biography with the English language version!
First, Russian:
Now, in English:
This expedition (May 21 - June 12, 2004) in Siberia, Yakutia is a part of a project Pan-Arctic River Transport of Nutrients, Organic Matter and Suspended Sediments. The project is international: scientists from four countries are involved. The major aim of the project is to define trends of global warming through measurements of discharge and other natural features of Arctic rivers. The scientists from USA and Russia took part in the expedition - Max Holmes, Alexander Zhulidov, Chris Guay; the teacher of American school - Amy Clapp; and students Gordeeva Lena, Kleshenkov Lesha and Oliver Monson. In order to determine next characteristics - temperature, PH, metals, microbiological features of water, organic carbon, nutrients and others - the range of samples was taken. As it is impossible to go in the river on the boat during ice-breaking the samples firstly were taken near coastline. Very interesting part of the project is not only scientific but pedagogical part of the project too. Amy teaches the subject Science in the school of Vermont and this trip is representative for her students. They get information about *real* scientific expedition in real time through satellite phone and Internet.
