TREC Partners

The TREC program is a partnership between the Arctic Research Consortium of the United States (ARCUS) and VECO Polar Resources (VPR). TREC is funded by the National Science Foundation's Office of Polar Programs Arctic Sciences Section.

Below is a brief overview of the responsibilities of each TREC partner:

    Arctic Research Consortium of the United States
    • Administers program
    • Responsible for program design and delivery; including preparing program information, distributing program information, developing detailed program scope and activities, web site design and implementation, and program evaluation
    • Convene ad hoc selection committee
    • Assist in selection of teachers and research projects
    • Arrange and provide content for orientation webinars and training
    • Coordinate with VPR on safety training and all logistics
    • Publicize TREC program and provide information to the TREC teachers, researchers, and school districts
    • Provide website support for all TREC participants
    • Serve as liaison between TREC teachers and research teams, VPR, and OPP to provide necessary support to participants and to increase success of future field experiences
    • Facilitate TREC outreach and connections to the larger community
    • Facilitate on-going support and collaborations between teachers and researchers
    • Administer and facilitate the Connecting Arctic/Antarctic Researchers and Educators (CARE) network

    VECO Polar Resources
    • Logistics provider for relevant field projects
    • Participate in online webinar orientation sessions for safety and logistics
    • Provide clothing and equipment for the duration of deployment and for any outreach activities (i.e. gear for classroom presentations)
    • Attend orientations and field safety training, and deployment support
    • Ship gear to and from participants prior to and after deployment
    • Assist in publicizing TREC expeditions by linking from the VPR website
    • Conduct out-briefs to provide logistical evaluations
    • Coordinate medical clearance for participants working in Greenland
    • Provide user day fees when applicable

    National Science Foundation Office of Polar Programs Arctic Sciences Section
    • Funds the project
    • Assists in recruitment of researchers interested in participating
    • Assists in panel selection of teachers
    • Works with TREC Program team to match teachers and researchers
    • Provides materials/resources associated with Arctic and Antarctic Programs
