Day 16: Sea Floor Trawling

trawlingThe last few days have been somewhat uneventful. I went down to the stern of the ship, got a hard-hat, and monitored the trawling process. It is very similar to trolling, except you are dragging a chain-link net across the bottom rather than jiggling a lure through the water.

They came up with some good stuff -- a lot of small brittle stars, sea cucumbers, and the occasional amphipod. It was pretty cool, even though most of the creatures were rather small, there was still a good diversity.
