I was wondering why you take the samples from the ice floe. Also, what has been your favorie thing to do when in your spare time?

The ice core samples are tested for temperature, distribution/concentration of ice algae and primary production activity.

I love to watch the Healy break ice. Seeing the cracks grow and the chunks of ice pushed aside and/or shot upwards is fascinating.
