Hey Patti - I want to know the average teperature of the water and air in the arctic circle. DO you see Mink (sp?) whales or other marine life besides Walrus? What is the most interesting bi-valve or other ocean floor life you have come across? I am going to get your autograph upon your return. What is the sleeping situation - shifts? Uncomfortable? What?

Hey Jerry,
Thanks for the message. The water temperature is ranging from 0 to -2
degrees C. The air temperature is hanging right around 0 degrees C. It
feels cold when the wind is blowing, but pretty comfortable without the
wind. I saw a polar bear today. There have been some pretty
interesting tube worms coming from the benthic grabs (the grab is called
a van Veen grab). We are trying to avoid the natives hunting grounds so
no whales yet. The ship is really comfortable. We have three people in
a room and two rooms share a head. The food is good and the working
stations are warm - who could ask for more? Oh, yeah...it is light all
the time.
