My name is Ashleigh Wilbert, and I am a freshman at Polson High School.
I am in Mr. Roger's Earth Science class and I have some questions about
your trip.
1. What type of animal diversity have you found throughout your
expedition?
2. What type of instruments are you in charge of operating?
3. What has been the most difficult part of your trip? the most
rewarding?
4. What is the main goal you hope to reach by the end of the entire
experience? |

1. So far we have been sampling along the Chukchi Sea shelf. In
zooplankton samples there have been large and small species of copepods
(adults, larval stages and eggs), larval stages of shrimp and
unidentified eggs. In the benthic samples there have been several
species of clam, polychaete worms, priapulids, a snail, sponges and a
crab.
2. I am not in charge of any instruments. However, I have collected water
from a rosette on the CDT package, used a water filtering apparatus, and
assisted with benthic sorting and plankton picking which require
microscope work.
3. The most difficult part of the trip so far has been learning the jargon
spoken by both the scientists and the Coast Guard. The most rewarding
has been the vast amount of learning and growing I am doing on the
cruise.
4. My main goal is to learn as much as I can to bring back to my classroom
in Yelm Middle School in Washington. |
