I have just discovered the Healy's recent departure to points north in the arctic. I was on the USCGC Modoc ( 240' Tampa class cutter) on the famous Greenland Patrol during WW II as a Morse Code Radio Operator, a facinating time to be in the CG while escorting vital shipping to the various stations up the west coast of Greenland. It was a difficult time to navigate the fjords and many times were had to be extricated by ice breakers. The CGC Storis remains the only WW CGCutter still on active service. The Germans were active in setting up radio stations and it was the CG who cleared them out. I also participated in two International Ice Patrols after the war with Germany was over. It quite an experience.
I am a retired NYC teacher and a member of the US Coast Guard Combat Veterans Association. Please extend my best wishes to your associates and to the officers and crew of that wonderful vessel. I would appreciate any contact with the crew and or your associates.
