TREC Virtual Base Camp

Welcome to the TREC Virtual Base Camp!

Field Expedition Phase Complete:
The TREC teachers have completed their field experience in the Arctic; however, they are still answering questions and posting to their journals. Be sure to continue to post questions and read about how they are integrating their field experience into their teaching. Select a specific Field Expedition to post a question or read a teachers journal.

In a program similar to TREC, Project Armada supported teacher Stephen Schmidt on the U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker Healy this past summer. To learn more about his experience, click here and look under the "Shipboard Reports" for the "Daily Teachers Journal.

The TREC Virtual Base Camp is an extension of the TREC Website, developed for information sharing and interaction among teachers, students, researchers, and community members interested in Arctic science. It includes:
  • detailed information about TREC projects and teams
  • photo albums
  • teacher's journals
  • public message boards
The 2004 TREC teachers traveled all over the Arctic to participate in field research. To find out more about the TREC projects, click on one of the red project dots on the map below, or select a project from the menu at the left or at the top of this page.

The Project pages contain descriptions of the research, the field location, teacher and researcher bios, and links to the project's photo album and message board. You can also go directly to the message boards through the "Message Boards" links at the left or at the top of this page. You can read teacher's journals, or Ask a Question -- no log in or registration is required.

Please contact Helen Wiggins with any questions, suggestions, or comments regarding TREC or the Virtual Base Camp.
