UNEP/GRID-Arendal acts as the focus center for the Arctic region within the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). This summer work started to create a comprehensive "Arctic Environmental Atlas", an interactive polar map on the Internet, using freely available data. The environmental themes are mostly subsets of global datasets that have been formatted and projected to fit the Arctic view. This can ben overlain with physical features, protected areas and ecoregions. The goal is to further develop the map, with more datasets and features but also in the direction towards a portal for access to data and other information resources.
