Expedition Diaries - Day 5

Good afternoon, on this final day of the "Arctic Alive" expedition. It has turned out to be another great day here in Fairbanks. I was expecting snow flurries, but it is actually quite sunny today with broken clouds.

I met with Hajo Eicken and his graduate student Andy Mahoney at the university again today. Our discussion was focused primarily on how climate change might effect each of our communities and the world that we all share. Many interesting points were brought up today, which really helped me understand how amazingly complex the whole arctic system is. There are lots of things we don't understand or are just beginning to understand about the arctic. Could you see yourself studying some of these things in the future?

I want to thank all of the participants. The questions you all asked were really insightful and thought provoking. I hope your curiosity never ceases, you keep asking those interesting questions and you keep discovering things about the world around you!! I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the arctic it is a truly fascinating and inspiring place. The students, the scientists, the people of Barrow and the teachers were all great and contributed to the success of our expedition. I learned a lot and I am glad you were able to journey with me on this "virtual" field trip.

Until we meet again, I wish you exciting adventures!

Patrick
