I hear that the Arctic can be cold and rainny - isn't this going to be hard for someone from the sunshine state? Al |

Yes, it will be different! Do you suggest I spend time in a meat locker to prepare?

Watch out Maggie I hear Al brings the rain with him!!!! We maybe had two or three days of rain the whole time we were out there last year. I had the best time, worked with great people and brought all kinds of cool things back to my classroom. Enjoy.

Whats your favoret animal up there? from, Karrie-may P.S. my email address is karriemay_1993@yahoo.com. Hi Karrie-May, great to meet you! I love it up here and I'll tell you why. It is cool to cold, but with the right clothes, it feels just fine. There are no cars or planes or noisy things that pollute. The sun is up all the time in the summer and that is really weird, but fun. The glaciers are huge and the water runs fast. The landscape is really huge! The arctic is a very special place, and it is a real treat to live in it. This is my 3rd summer in the high north, and my first time in Norway. I really like the sound of the Norwegian language, and the simple way they live. There just isn't too much junk everywhere, and it is a peaceful feeling. As far as animals, we have seen no bears yet, but are armed with rifles and flair pistols when ever we go out. There are lots of birds - terns like to dive bomb us, and the other gulls too. We saw Beluga whales a few days ago and we see Reindeer everyday. Cool! I am glad you will be my student - we are going to have a really fun and active year! M. Kane |

Hi Ellen! Yes the arctic can be pretty cold and wet, but it is also really gorgeous! I'm glad you checked in with the site and if you want to email more questions, go for it! Also you can send emails to mkanetrec@arcus.org. Maggie
