when you stopped at the first sample site you mentioned that the scientists were collecting water samples. do you know what kind of tests they were running or what they were testing for?

Hi Joe,
That's a great question. The scientists were collecting water from an instrument called a CTD. That stands for conductivity (which measures salinity), temperature, and depth. They were also collecting the samples to analyze the dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll, stable isotopes, selenium, density of particulate organic matter, and fatty acids. Most of those things are found in the particulate organic matter that was collected on filters.
