Summary: The teachers and scientists dug up tephra from beneath waist tall bamboo stalks near Ainu Creek. Mrs. Nikula found a really nice Japanese glass float near another area of sand. They all saw a "show" of sea lions in the early morning, curtesy of fish and fish bait.

New knowledge: Russian flies DO bite, apparently. Sea lions eat fish bait.

Questions: When on the deck, about how much space is there between you and the water's surface?

Jessica
I am glad to see you reading through the journal entries so thoroughly and coming up with good questions!
When we were on the aft (bacK) deck of Gipanis, the water was about 10 feet below us. The middle deck was about 12 feet higher and the top deck another 15-17 feet higher than that.
See you at school soon!
