After leaving Lonyearbyen at 4:00 am in the morning on Friday, I arrived safely back in Chappaqua at 9:30 pm on Friday night. It was so strange to be in the dark. For 6 weeks I hadn't seen darkness and now there was a dark night. The other thing I noticed almost immediately was all the insects making noise at night. We had none of this on the tundra. Wow.
