It is 5 am and I'm ready to hit the road on the Dalton Express--the bus that will take me up to Toolik Field Station to begin my work with Donie. I always get excited/nervous when I travel so I didn't need my wake up call--I've been up for hours. The same feeling I had as a kid when we would take trips to the nearby amusement park Cedar Point.
The weather right now is about 70 degrees and they are calling for overcast skies all day. With the sun being out for so long you almost get two days in one up here. Yesterday it was a bit cloudy in the morning and not really a day to spend outside. By 5 pm it was sunny and hot and a perfect day to grill out. The Wedgewood Hotel where I have stayed is really nice but their computer room is about 90 degrees. It gives me a good chance to experience what my students are feeling as they begin taking exams today. I hope they are doing well and that it is not too hot and muggy in Concord. I should have more pictures tonight when I arrive at Toolik. By the way I was interested to find out that the Dalton Express actually takes about 4 hours longer than it would take in a regular vehicle--I should have lots of time for pictures and site seeing. |
