Was it hard sampling the Yukon because it is so big and couldnt it be different in different parts?
All of the rivers that we sampled on were really big--and it was difficult, but luckily we had some great people working in each of the places that we were who helped out tremendously, so that in the end it didn't seem that difficult working on such large rivers.
You are absolutly right that the river water would be differnet at different locations. That is why each of the sampling sites are located at the closest place possible to get samples before the water runs into the ocean. That way the scientists who are analyzing the water will have the best idea of what the "fingerprint" is of the water when it dumps into the Arctic Ocean.
Great questions!!
