whats up mr crumrine, now being in alaska, and from watching jeff corwin i know that there are plenty of dangerous creatures in the alaskan area. now with my own personal experience, ive encountered a handful of bear confrontations, but none turned into a dirty mess, like a bear eating my arm off or someone crazy like that. and from watching movies and what not, ive seen that wolfs are also dangerous predators, but as shown in movies such as white fang (a classic movie of a boy who discovers a half wolf half dog and befriends him..intensely) wolfs can scare off bears one on one, mono on mono? well considering you are in the area where at any point in time a bear or a wolf could stumble upon your work site and eat a lot of stuff ultimatley making you trip very scary knowing you have either a bear or a wolf tracking you down, now my question is, what animal would you rather want tracking you down, a bear (preferably a brown bear, black bears are too playful, so im thinking like a killer kodiak bear or maybe just you know like a strong brown bear nothing too intense, but still think intense) or a killer wolf (i mean a killer wolf, because all wolfs, all true bred wolfs are born killers, but to make this interesting say its like the alpha male, and you know exactly what that means, like that means the wolf will be tough stuff most likely a territorial creature so when it comes to you, you probably would want to run) so let me just re ask this question, would you rather have a man eating bear or a man eating wolf an your trail

if i were you, id say bear, because then you can always just pull out like a rainbow trout as a decoy and throw it at the bear and then run and i mean run because bears love phish

Thanks for that very intriguing trials of life quandry. I think I would have to say that I would rather run into a wolf if I had to. They are known to be much more shy than bears and they are smaller. I'm afraid of mean humans that are taller than me, and I am sure that I would be quite afraid of an 8-9 foot bear. Also bears look cuddly when you receive them as gifts--but did you ever notice that no teddy bears have claws. The makers of teddy bears conspicuously remove the gigantic claws and put on little pad spots making it seem as though the bears have the same kinds of feet as a friendly dog. One of the things that scares me about them is their large claws--they are several inches long. Another thing that scares me is their unpredictable nature. Wolves usually would be scared off if they encountered people--bears probably would be too--but they might not. Yet another thing that scares me about bears is their speed. Somehow we have this idea in our heads that since bears are big they are slow--not true. They can run alot faster than people and can either climb trees or pull down the small one you try to hide in. The final thing is, there are lots of books with titles like, "When Bears Attack," there are very few with the same wolf related titles.

So as you can see--I'm a little afraid of bears. Thank goodness Angela got me that whistle so I can make lots of noise to scare them off.
