My first polar bear
TREC 8-19-05 Ship Position Information at 2005/08/20 06:13:01 UTC Longitude: 175 50.829 W Latitude: 78 56.957 N I was sitting in the computer lab typing a TREC report as the pipe (announcement) came over the ships speaker system: “Polar bear at the bow- starboard.” Pencils dropped and we were running outside. Hmmm, where to go- the bow is the front of the ship and starboard is the right side – Let’s go to the front and right side of the ship. No need to search for the bear at the bow. There were about 30 people watching and pointing at him. I had never seen a polar bear before and it was quite a site. The bear was about 200 m in front of the ship, walking, running, swimming. We all took photos like crazy. Well, I had only a small camera in my pocked (Murphy’s Law). My photos look more like can you find the bear …Thankfully, somebody had a big zoom lens and we shared the pictures immediately after the event. Enjoy, Ute Kaden Polar bear tracks on the ice flow Polar bear in front of the ship. My First Polar Bear. |
