Why does one lake still have ice on it, and another lake right next to it is completely melted? Any ideas?

I think that some lakes may have more salt in it then some of the other lakes.

Hi Christina,

Great question! The larger lakes seemed to still have ice on them, while the smaller lakes had already melted completely. Sometimes it might because of more or less saltiness! Do you think the saltier ones have ice longer?

Also, I think the larger lakes are also deeper. The volume of water takes longer to heat up so the ice does not melt as quickly. The smaller lakes tend to be shallower and heat up much more quickly, melting their layer of ice!

This would make a good science fair proejct, don't you think?
