Hello Patty,

How are you?? On your trip, is it ever boring? Do you ever miss your house or your bed? I would. When you are packing for the trip, what do you bring? What happends if you have a pet? Can you bring it, or does it have to stay wit someone? Do you ever go fishing for food? When you take a shower, is the water warm? When it rains, does the deck get flooded? What would happen if someone got very hurt, like they fell or had a heart attack? I hope you have fun.

Write Back Soon!!

Hi Gina,
It is never boring on the trip. There are always things to do: help the scientists, write journal entries, answer questions like yours, go up to the “bridge” to watch the ice and waves, etc. I do get homesick sometimes. When I was packing for my trip, I brought two big duffle bags. Some of the things that I brought were pants, warm tops, a heavy down jacket, fleece pants and jacket, four pairs of gloves (waterproof ones, windproof ones, thin ones, and fleece ones), hats, a scarf, two pairs of shoes, steel toed boots, cameras, my computer, towels, etc. I don’t have any pets, but I guess if someone lives alone and they have a pet, they would have to ask someone they know to watch it. We never go fishing for food. When I take a shower, the water shifts without warning from hot to cold to hot again. It hasn’t really rained yet (there have been snowflakes). But I would think that any rainwater would probably drain right off the deck and into the sea. There is a doctor onboard, and I think that he can even perform surgeries onboard if he needs to. Otherwise, if we were close enough to land, they could probably get the sick person off by helicopter.
Thanks for writing,
Patty
