Katie,

Well, I didn't go to the tundra fire and I didn't see it. It burned last year before I was there.

The did use some specific tools to measure the amount of nutirents in the soil. They also used probes to push down through the earth and see where the permafrost was.

I wish I could have gone on this trip so I could tell you more.
