Last look back to Dutch Harbor, AK like many sea men have done before us…

What a night. The ship is rocking and rolling, moving up, down and sideways at the same time. The Bering Street is known for raging storms and stifling fog. Most of us were afraid to get seasick. The ship’s sickbay was prepared and people started putting on patches against seasickness. Amazingly, I feel good- no signs of seasickness yet (pray…). The sea swells are expected to grow to 6-9 ft. Overall, the weather is not too bad. It is rainy-fogy and we have 35knts wind.

Soon the coastline has disappeared

Science crews are getting their equipment ready and holding planning meetings (coring, seismic surveying, ice properties, ice drift, and ice thickness monitoring).

Several humpback whales were spotted. We will be crossing the Arctic Circle (67.5 N) tomorrow. Stay tuned for more.
