cool.gif Hey Leslie,

Greetigs from South East Idaho. The weather is warm and beautiful. Reading your journal, and "Ask The Teacher", I pick up comments about a flood and bears ruining some of your gear. Where can I read about these? You almost entice me to come to Barrow.

Hi Lynette,

Some of my first entries (around July 12 or 13th) talk about the bears and have pictures of ruined gear and bear tracks!

The flooding happened in the delta before we arrived, in early June. The bay was still frozen and the spring runoff had no where to go but to flood the land. So, much of the delta was flooded when the geese arrived leaving them only a few high spots where they nest to also feed and grub.

The flooding also meant that Brian was not able to get out here in June to do some preliminary work as he had planned. That meant that he didn't get the chance to prepare for our transects like he had wanted to but it seemed to work out fine.

I guess that's part of the scientific method, figuring things out as you go!

I hope I am enticing you to come and visit!
Take care,
Leslie
