Tom:

Though sorely tempted, I'll leave the personal correspondence out of this.

Question: I know you were only there for a brief moment (comparatively) but I'm interested to hear if you observed any obvious similarities between the Toolik Lake location and the White Mountains?

I'm wondering in particular about the above-the-treeline areas around the Presidential range (or Katahdin for that matter).

Gooch,

Thanks for your question. Thus far I have only been to Fairbanks. I will be heading up to Toolik when I return.

The trees in the Fairbanks area do seem to be suspiciously short. Much as you would find as you hiked up into the White Mountains. I don't know what this is due to or if they are simply a different type of tree. I will have to do more research on this one.

The researcher that I am working with will surely know the answer so I will try to remember to ask her when I speak with her again.

Look forward to seeing you some day soon.
