How much discharge does the MacKenzie and Yukon put out every minute? Does it matter how much precipitation there is?

Hi Heather,
On average, Yukon River discharge is about 200 cubic kilometers per year and the Mackenzie River discharge is about 300 cubic kilometers per year. The Lena River (where Amy Clapp and I went last year) dicharges about 530 km3/y, and the largest arctic river (the Yenisey) discharges about 630 km3/y. When scientists talk about river discharge, they usually express it in either cubic kilometers per year (km3/y) or cubic meters per second (m3/s). Can you convert the values I gave you above to m3/s? Good luck! Max |
