I'm at the Wedgewood Hotel and wating for my flight home. I've stocked up on my TV watching and I think I've seen enough for a while. It seems interesting that CNN can stay in business by running the exact same story over and over again for an entire day. When I left the campsite the other morning I walked to the Wedgewood carrying all of my things. I hadn't gone to a cash machine yet so I decided not to call a cab. Considering that I was carrying all of my things it may not have been the best decision. When I took my pack off I felt like I was walking on air. That's the only picture I'm putting in today because the computer at the Wedgewood seems to be running on software from the mid 90s. It is the kind of internet connection where you point the mouse at something and by the time it appears you have forgotten what you were trying to get to. It also does that thing where you type about 8 letters before they appear on the screen. If only I could be back at Toolik where they have an amazingly fast internet connection. Yesterday was spent seeing the sights in Fairbanks. I went to a sled mushing museum and an ice carving museum and for a little tour of the campus. I enjoyed it but it wasn't an earth shattering day. They were the kinds of little museums that every moderate sized town contains and they weren't really that different from any other town except that they were in Fairbanks. The best parts of this trip were certainly the Auf Ice and the thermokarst and things like that--the types of things you can only see in Alaska. |
