One of the keys to having a successful expedition will be for us to have reliable communications with the outside world. To do so, we will rely on a satellite phone (sometimes linked to a laptop computer), just as we did last year on our expedition to the Lena River in Siberia. The attached photo shows me testing the satellite phone on the grounds of the Woods Hole Research Center where I work. Hopefully we can get the kinks worked out before we leave in 4 days!

Max,

Did you get the satellite phone to work as a data connection for your computer? I bet your surroundings and your foot gear will be just a bit different when you use the satellite phone in the field. biggrin.gif

Hi Wendy,

Yes, I was able to get the laptop / satellite phone connection to work. I think that Amy will still be the expert, but if need be we'll have some backup. And yes, I think I'll leave the flip-flops at home.
