Today we had a really special dinner treat! When we returned from the field, Morten and Mark were cooking outside on the grill. Wonderful smells wafted to us as we walked through the compound to unload samples, wash up and exchange muddy clothes for clean. They were cooking over by a little red building that we knew was the bar, or Ræva. We had heard the inside was really cool, so I was excited to see it.

We even enjoyed grilled bananas with strawberries for desert! We are really getting spoiled here, as Metta, Mark and Morten are taking such care in feeding us well. The weather is supposed to turn foul soon, so we are gearing up for the wet and cold. Snow is predicted next weekend, but we hope that is just a joke (ha-ha-ha).

The students are all working hard on their projects now, and getting into the rhythm of data collection. This coming week will be very busy with field work during the day and synthesizing data and ideas in the evenings. The following week (our last here) we will continue with research and see their work projected as evening progress report presentations. This will be really exciting. There are so many great ideas being thought about concerning different features all over the valley. I am working on collecting sights and sounds of the arctic and holding short interviews with students. Look for the sounds as “podcasts” on the Website in a few days.

Question of the Day: Can you identify the kind of whale skull that is two pictures up? It has to be a kind that swims up in the arctic. Post your answers on the "Ask the Teacher and Scientist" forum.
