Dear Mr. McMahon,

We're proud of you back here at Renfroe Middle School. We can't wait to benefit from your unique experience on the world's largest island - in fact, we already are because of the buzz about science you have created. Make sure to post/send pictures of you all bundled up staying warm. (By the way, has Starbucks made it to Greenland?) Also, maybe you'll have time to explain by what modes of transportation you have arrived at your camp? I'm picturing the Idiatrod.

Thanks for describing your transportation to Summit in your latest entry. Are they showing Ice Age as the in-flight movie?

While dog sleds are a mode of transportation in Greenland, we traveled by ways you are more familiar with. We traveled by plane from Atlanta to Albany, NY. From there, we took a C-130 Hercules military plane to Kangerlussauq which is near the west coast of Greenland. After spending a night in "Kanger", we took another C-130 Hercules military plane to Summit Camp. The only tricky part was landing on the ice and snow. However, with the sleds they attach to the wheels, we had a very smooth landing. It was smoother than some landings I have had on runways at the Atlanta airport.

At Summit camp, we will walk a lot. Our remote site is about 1/2 mile from our tents and the "Big House". We also will be able to use an electric snowmobile from time to time. It is fun to drive.
