How many friends do you have there? Or are all of them your friends?

Well, I have about 8-10 people that at this point I would call my friends. They aren't people that I knew before the trip, but ones that I met only in the last week or two. Since we are in such close living conditions and working together so much, they have very quickly become my new friends. Mostly, these are the people from the University of Washington - like the graduate and undergraduate students, professors and such. There are many other people on the ship that I have only just met - many are Russians. They are very friendly and we talk at meals or other times, but I do not know them very well, yet. There are also quite a few crew members on the ship that I have not really spoken with, but see often. Most of them do not speak any English, so it is hard to talk with them.
