Getting ready for my arctic adventure will take many different forms. I have been thinking about what I will need for some time now, and have started accumulating clothing and equipment that I will take with me in July. I have also been trying to get strong so that all the work outside will feel less difficult! Here are a few pictures of some of the items that I have gotten so far:
Fingerless Gloves will allow me to work with equipment and stay warm It is really important that I stay as warm as I can. Al Werner has told me that getting cold in the boat is not much fun. So, I have gotten a few odd looking things to help me stay comfortable. These are stretchy wool socks that I hope will keep my toes warm! These are called "Smartwool" - lets hope they do the trick! I also got what is called a Balaclava which is a hood that could really help me stay warm on a windy day. It is very weird looking though, and my daughter Kate and I can’t decide whether it makes us look more like a nun, an executioner or a Russian peasant! Kate modeling my lovely hood! I also got a web-cam for my classroom. My students will have returned to school while I still am up north, so I thought we could chat with each other this way. High-Tech toys! When my raincoat and cool mud boots arrive, I will post those as well! |

Great idea to add a journal about your clothing! Very clever! I am sure you are so excited about your upcoming journey. I am excited to follow it! Be safe!
